YOURS FOR A SONG!Love and music—they're practically inseparable. The lover serenades his beloved, hearts sing, couples smile and say, "They're playing our song." In fact, songs have a unique power to evoke many emotions. We take this power for granted, thinking of songs purely as entertainment. But is that really all they are? |
You may be surprised to learn that song lyrics are nothing less than powerful affirmations and love songs an open door into a world of beautiful, life-changing visualizations. Research has shown that musical tones and rhythms bypass our conscious mind, directly affecting our heart rate and mood. When we add words, the music acts as a vehicle carrying them along with it. Because they don't pass through our conscious, analytical mind, we don't process these words as we normally would. When a lyric says, "don't worry, be happy," we feel like smiling. If a song lyric tells us "love lifts us up," we don't stop to ask ourselves if that's true or not—instead, we feel uplifted!
SAY THE WORD "LOVE"
The earliest songs were chants: the rhythmical repetition of words with which the magician conjured, the medicine man healed, the shaman opened doors to the spirit world. Obviously our ancestors understood the power of words and music to create, to heal, and to change our inner and outer reality.
Today's popular songs, like chants, are also built around the rhythmical repetition of a phrase. Called the "hook," this phrase may be repeated as many as twelve to fifteen times in less than three minutes! Unfortunately, popular songs often paint a sorrowful, unfulfilling picture of life and love. Once we're aware of how words and music affect us, we can choose to listen to songs that affirm the images and emotions we want in our lives.
There's a growing number of singers and songwriters who are creating music and lyrics that affirm a joyful, loving, fulfilling view of life. And of course there are some great hit songs that do the same. Listening to such songs can help to undo the effects of the negative words and images that surround us, achieving a balance in the messages we take in. These songs can also be used as beautiful affirmations, summoning the thoughts and images that attract the reality you want. As the Law of Attraction states: Everybody loves a lover! Attract the love you want by filling your mind with the pictures and words that draw love to you.
LET A LOVE SONG PAINT A MENTAL PICTURE
Here's a visualization technique that will attract abundant love like a magnet:
Pick a song with a positive emotional message such as The Beatles' "Here, There and Everywhere," Elton John's "Can you Feel the Love Tonight" or Bette Midler's recording of "Wind Beneath My Wings." You'll find more beautiful, positive love songs in our list of Top 20 Love Songs.
Find a quiet, comfortable place to relax where you won't be disturbed. Play the song and allow your mind to gently focus on the lyrics.
While listening, you can let the song lyrics suggest images, scenes, and emotions. Or feel free to create your own mental picture of a loving relationship you'd like to manifest in your life, then let the song evoke the emotions that go with it.
As you make these beautiful images and feelings a familiar part of your inner life, you reinforce positive expectations and open yourself to new possibilities. Best of all, when it comes to emotions the saying "like attracts like" really applies: if your heart is singing a love song, it's likely to become a duet!
